Entrepreneurs Take Up Fundraising Challenge

22 March 2008

Eager entrepreneurs in Peterborough are putting their fundraising skills to the test in aid of Sue Ryder Care - Thorpe Hall Hospice. The charity’s ‘Big Wigs’ challenge will see businesses in Cambridgeshire compete to raise a record total for Sue Ryder Care.

Emma Long fundraiser at Thorpe Hall Hospice explained: “The Big Wigs challenge is to take £50 and prove just how good an entrepreneur they are. We are not telling the Big Wigs what to do with the money, we just want them to make it grow and give it back to the charity with substantial interest. At the end of the project we will be naming the “Sue Ryder Care Charity Entrepreneur of the Year,” amongst other awards.

The challenge was launched on Wednesday 5th March at a special event held at Thorpe Hall Hospice where Mike Yates from 121 Business Ltd gave a motivational speech and each ‘Big Wig’ received a crisp £50 note, sponsored by Norwich & Peterborough Building Society.

Emma continued: “I am so pleased with the number of people who have taken up the challenge, we have 15 confirmed Big Wigs taking part and they all seem very competitive! The launch night had a great atmosphere and I think everybody this year will be very successful with their fundraising.

I would like to say a big thank you to new Big Wigs: A Formal Affair, Sanit Washrooms and Hygiene, Business Watch Group, CBA Ltd, Interaction Recruitment, Intrinsec Company Secretarial Limited, Moore Stephens UK, Peterborough Marriott Hotel, Travel Counsellors, Simon Potter, Sainsbury’s, Blue Monkey Web Design, and returning Big Wigs; Esporta, Halcrow Group Limited and Royal Mail, who will be defending their title ‘Charity Entrepreneur of the Year’”

Emma added: “I really believe that this years Big Wigs have the ability to smash last years total of £22,000 and raise even more vital funds for the hospice. We look forward to seeing what each Big Wig has up their sleeve and working with them over the coming months.”
