Full steam ahead for Bronte vintage gathering

6 May 2008

The 10th annual Bronte Vintage Gathering will be held this coming weekend in Cullingworth near Keighley and the two day event, held in aid of Sue Ryder Care - Manorlands Hospice is set to be the biggest and best yet with a bumper weekend of famous exhibits and attractions in prospect.

New to this year’s wealth of attractions are the ‘Zero Gravity’ freestyle trials team, a Chainsaw Sculptor and a Scrapheap challenge event where visitors will be invited to bring a home made device that will compete in an ‘orange throwing’ competition.  ‘The Landrover of destruction’ will be crushing cars throughout the weekend.  Weather permitting there will also be a flypast by a WW2 Spitfire which has unable to appear in recent years due to poor weather.  However the forecast is good for this weekend and organisers are hoping that visitors will flock to the event after a spate of local rural shows being blighted by poor weather.

Chairman of the Bronte Vintage Gathering Committee Tom Jowett is delighted with how the event has come together this year and is keen to stress that over the last decade the event has become a country show for all to enjoy. “The event is no longer just for fanatics of vintage machinery and we really have something for everyone in our 10th anniversary event, it’s a true family event with fairground, musical entertainment, a bar and much much more. “

The gates are open from 10 am until 5 pm on both days and tickets are £5 (£3 concessions) with all proceeds going to Manorlands Hospice.  Last year the team of volunteer organisers donated £15,000 from the event taking the total amount raised over the £135,000 mark.  On the Saturday evening there is a dance with a licensed bar and live entertainment in the beer tent from ‘Rakish Paddy’.
