The race is on: Beating the Baton - and my daughter!

17 July 2008

Bob Ellison, 56 from Crewe, Cheshire is running for the first time after being challenged to Beat the Baton by his daughter, Katie who has just moved down to Tooting, South London.

Katie, a keen runner, has been trying to get her Dad to run with her for many years and is thrilled that he has signed up.

Bob said: “I have only ever walked a 5k run before, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try running a further distance. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will really help to get me through those extra miles. I’m sure I will be embarrassing my daughter by skipping along to the Can Can.

“I have downloaded the training pack from the Sue Ryder Care website and have been making (slow) progress with the running. It really is amazing work that the charity does, providing expert and specialist care and I was really delighted that my company, Marsh, has agreed to double the money I raise.  Our friends and family have been sponsoring us online and have been able to add a gift aid extra for free.

“They are all rooting for me to 'beat the baton' - and my daughter!”
