Music making a difference

7 April 2008

Sue Ryder Care - The Old Palace is looking for support to continue running its popular Music Therapy sessions. The neurological care centre has recently been holding workshops for residents with Sue Robathan from Music for Health, Cambridge.

Participants are treated to a jam-packed music schedule where musical props and various instruments are brought to each workshop so that those taking part can become as involved as they wish. The music therapy sessions have been a big success at Sue Ryder Care and have proved to be very popular.  Staff at Sue Ryder Care have seen residents transform during the sessions and really enjoy the workshops.

Care Centre Manager Rachael Watts commented:  “Music therapy has had a big impact for many of our residents at The Old Palace.  The sessions are stimulating and move from relaxing and quiet moments, to energetic and lively sections.  It is wonderful to see the positive changes the enjoyment of these workshops brings.  It is a highlight of the month for many of our residents.” The workshop format is based on research on the positive and powerful effects that music and sound frequencies have on well being.  Each session costs £53 and the Sue Ruder Care team is hoping to find the funds to continue to run the popular sessions.
