Albania is one of the poorest countries in Europe, with 40% of the population having no access to basic services such as education, water, sanitation and heating. The Ryder Albania's multidisciplinary teams provide home-based care in Tirana and Durres, many of the patients suffer from cancer. Medical, psychological and social care is provided to over 2,500 individuals and their families every year.
Ryder Albania also publishes learning materials, trains around 500 doctors, nurses, social workers and psychologists every year and plays a leading role in the Albanian National Association of Palliative Care, which it helped to establish.
Ryder Albania is entirely dependent on charitable funds.
We urgently need your support.
Watch and learn more 48 Hours in Albania (a short film by David Bird)
Please take 15 minutes to watch this video, filmed on location in Albania and produced by David Bird of DB Sound and Vision. The people Ryder Albania help are often in extreme poverty, frequently with little or no income and sometimes with no running water or sanitation. Because of the lack of funds the care teams are not always able to provide all the drugs required. If the patient is unable to buy the drugs they need, they have to go without.
