1. The owner and organiser of this competition is Sue Ryder Care Direct Limited. The competition is part of Sue Ryder Care’s Art Liberating Lives Exhibition and Campaign and is open to artists aged 16 or over. A separate category is available for artists enrolled in full-time education* as at 31 December 2009 (‘Artists in Education). All artists submitting works must accept these rules of the competition (the ‘Rules’).
2. You may submit an unlimited number of works provided you have created them yourself on or after 1 April 2009. A separate submission form must be completed for each work. A submission fee is payable for each work submitted. By completing and sending a submission form you agree to Sue Ryder Care Direct Limited acting as your selling agent in relation to work(s) selected for display at the Mall Galleries from 15 – 20 December 2009. All works selected for the exhibition will be entered into a competition to win a prize, details of which will be announced online at www.suerydercare.org. (Artists in Education work will be additionally be entered into a competition exclusive to this category). The prize in each case will be awarded by the selection panel and its decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into. The winners will be notified by email. Their names and the winning works will be displayed online at www.suerydercare.org on 16 December 2009 for a limited period. The winners will be expected to take part in promotion of the exhibition, including photography and filming. Works that have already been exhibited elsewhere will still be eligible for entry, although they must not have been submitted for any competition in the UK or elsewhere. As this is a selling exhibition, at the time of submission you must not have an exclusive sales agency agreement with any person or organisation.
3. There is one specific theme to follow: ‘Liberation’. The media you use may include any of the following: oil, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolour or other dry media and can be on any form of support (paper, canvas, wood, plastic, etc). Monoprints and drawings, sculpture, mixed media constructions, relief and other figurative installations will be accepted. Photographs are also acceptable, but you must produce a signed model release for any living subject whose image you portray. We regret that video film is not accepted.
4. For two-dimensional works where the longest dimension exceeds 2.4 metres and for all sculptures and installations, you should send three images of the work in .jpg format. For works of 2.4 metres or under, please attach one image of the work. The image(s) should be emailed/posted as part of your submission (see Rule 5 below) to arrive no later than midnight on 21 October 2009. Submission forms received beyond this date will not be considered by the selection panel. Do not send or hand in the original work(s) at this stage. A pre-selection will be made by the selection panel based solely on the images you have sent. Artists will be notified no later than 30 October 2009 whether or not their work has been pre-selected. If your work is pre-selected, you will need to ensure it is presented at a specified London venue (to be announced) for the second selection stage (artworks to be hung will need to be framed). This can be done through you bringing your work to the London venue in person (or through a third party). You (or a third party) may also bring it to a regional collection point (to be announced). A collection will be made from these points (on dates to be announced) by an independent courier service, details of which will be announced. Artists must make individual arrangements (including insurance) with any courier services used. These are used at the artist’s own risk and Sue Ryder Care gives no warranty as to quality of the independent courier service.
