For us healthcare and the environment go hand in hand

The Trustees and Chief Executive of the Charity recognise the need to minimise the environmental impact of Sue Ryder Care in all areas of its business.

The charity will:

  • act to minimise emissions to air, land and water, and will monitor and review pollution control systems with the aim of effecting continuous improvement.
  • reduce consumption where possible, and aim to reuse and recycle waste.
  • achieve compliance with applicable UK legislation on the environment.
  • aim to achieve compliance with applicable national and international standards for environmental management
  • preserve and enrich the biodiversity of land in its control where possible.

Directors will assume responsibility for setting environmental objectives for their areas of concern, in particular maximising efficiency and reducing costs of environmental impacts.

Senior managers and managers will develop environmental targets to enable their work areas to achieve the objectives set by the directors. Targets should be drawn up following consultation with employees and other stakeholders.

Budget holders will ensure adequate provision for the implementation and maintenance of environmental targets and systems

All workers will follow local procedures and workplace instructions for achieving environmental targets.

Targets will be subject to monitoring and review and from time to time environmental audits will be carried out as commissioned by the Health, Safety & Environment Steering Group.

Corporate guidance and procedures for environmental management will be produced from time to time by the Health, Safety and Environment Steering Group.  These documents will be circulated throughout the organisation and be subject to the normal document control procedure.
