Thanks to the kindness of people like you, since April 2008 Sue Ryder Care has claimed more than £300,000 in tax from our fundraising activities. As you can imagine this is an enormous boost to our funds and helps us to continue providing compassionate care for people living with conditions including cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, and brain injury.
For example, if you donate £20.00 to Sue Ryder Care and make a Gift Aid declaration, we can claim an additional £5.64 from the taxman.
Can I Gift Aid my donation?
For your donation to qualify for Gift Aid, you must be a UK tax payer and pay enough income tax or capital gains tax to at least equal the amount that Sue Ryder Care will claim on your donations made in that tax year. For example, if you were to generously donate £100 to Sue Ryder Care in one tax year, you must have paid at least £25 tax, which is the amount that we would reclaim in Gift Aid from HMRC.
To make a gift aid declaration please either download the form below, give us a call, send us an email or drop us a line. Thank you for heping us help more.
Download Sue Ryder Care's Gift Aid form. Please complete the form and send it back to us using our freepost address: Sue Ryder Care Central Office, LON20634 London WC1B 5BR.
You can also make a declaration over the phone if you'd rather. If you'd like to do this or if you have any questions please get in touch with us on 0845 050 1953 or email us.
Not only can Sue Ryder Care claim back the tax on your gift at the basic rate, but you too can benefit from your donation.
You can claim tax relief at a rate of 20% on the total value of your donation - which is the difference between higher and lower rate tax. For example, as a higher rate tax payer donating £100 to Sue Ryder Care we can claim £28 from HMRC, increasing the value of your gift to £128. You can then claim 20% on the £100 that you donate to receive £25 tax relief. So it costs you just £75 to make a £128 donation!
It couldn't be simpler either - just include the details of your charitable gifts on your self-assessment tax form or tell the tax office over the phone.
Did you know you can nominate Sue Ryder Care to receive your tax refund and you can ask for this to be treated as a gift aid donation? All you need to do is use Sue Ryder Care's unique code : SAR98UG on your self assessment form and your refund is electronically transferred to Sue Ryder Care. Give us a call for more information or have a look at the HMRC website.
Don't worry, there's still a way you can help. By letting us know that your donation is not eligible for Gift Aid we can update our records to ensure that we don't contact you about this again. This will save us time and money, ensuring that valuable donations go where they are needed.
Give us a call on 0845 050 1953, email us, or visit the HMRC website for further information.
If every charity supporter were to give their donations tax-effectively, charities could claim an estimated additional £900 million from HMRC each year (charityfacts.org)
You can now gift aid your donated items at your local Sue Ryder Care shop too! Click here for more information.
