We care for people with end of life and long term conditions: Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and Motor Neurone Disease

We have been completely overwhelmed with all the support that we have had from Gala Coral colleagues. Below is a taster of some of the fantastic activities that have been taking place and are planned:

Who let the dogs out
Residents at Sue Ryder Care – Stagenhoe in Hertfordshire were surprised by visitors from Coral from the Romford Greyhound Stadium with two greyhounds in tow, Tina and Rio.  The foursome took the opportunity to meet as many of the residents and staff at the care centre, who were all thrilled by the visit.  Although no longer able to race, the retired greyhounds didn’t disappoint and delighted all with their good nature and inquisitive charm.    Fran Short, manager at Sue Ryder Care – Stagenhoe, explained, “Tina and Rio were brilliant, you could literally see residents’ faces light up when they saw them.  They were a real hit with everybody and we’re already looking forward to their next visit!”

Mrs Obama's Bingo
Barack Obama’s step mother Kezia Obama launched in January a new online charity game that raised a fantastic £10,000 for Sue Ryder Care which Gala Bingo then matched! The bingo fanatic, who is from Bracknell, Berkshire, had her own dedicated game called ‘Mrs Obama’s Bingo’ that featured on GalaBingo.com.

The game coincided with Mrs Obama  flying out to join her President-in-Waiting stepson Barack in Washington DC for his Inauguration.Mrs Obama said: “I am delighted to help GalaBingo.com raise funds for the Sue Ryder Care charity. It is a really positive way of celebrating Barack’s Inauguration."

Energy Saving Light Bulbs!
In November Southern Electric, Gala Bingo and Sue Ryder Care shops offered consumers the chance to ‘go green and save money’ by giving away 3 million energy saving light bulbs.

As part of the initiative a ‘Giant’ energy saving light bulb road show, travelled throughout the country visiting Gala clubs and Sue Ryder Care shops to raise awareness of the importance of the campaign.  In-line with the campaign’s green ethos, Sue Ryder Care encouraged the idea of re-use and encouraged people to donate unwanted items to their local Sue Ryder Care shop in return for free energy efficient bulbs.

Everest Challenge
In October 2009 24 brave souls from across the Gala Coral Group are Trekking to Everest Base Camp in aid of Sue Ryder Care. This is a first for the Gala Coral Group, and promises to be an exciting trip for the group encouraging closer working relationships throughout their core businesses.
