Our News Releases

The Baker 10K

8 April 2008

For the second year running Pamela Mackenzie, Care Centre Manager at Sue Ryder Care's Dee View Court in Aberdeen, is pulling on her running shoes to take part in the Baker Hughes 10k, and this year she will be joined by her husband.

Pamela said "Having seen first hand the fantastic care that my staff provides for people living with conditions such as Huntington's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and brain injury, I wanted to help the charity by running the Baker Hughes 10k to raise money so the Sue Ryder Care can deliver even more care that liberates lives.  I had an amazing experience running the 10k last year and would encourage you to take up the challenge this year, and to join in the fun."

Sue Ryder Care has a number of guaranteed places for this highly popular running event and would love you to fill one of them.  If you would like to register please call Michael Hodgson on 07795 451320 or email michael.hodgson@suerydercare.org

Last year the Sue Ryder Care team had 38 people in our running team and they raised a fantastic £6,250 which allowed us to help many more people who needed our care.  Can you help us make even more of a difference this year?

Pamela said: "There are currently 29 million people in the UK who are affected by the life changing conditions that we care for, and our aim is to increase our hours of care from 4million to 10million over the next three years.  The money raised from the Baker Hughes 10k will help us towards this goal and will enable us to put back the dignity, independence and confidence that are taken away by the conditions we care for.  Please help us help more people who need our care."

Runners will receive a personalised service from Sue Ryder Care, including support with fundraising and training advice when needed to keep them on track.  With every pace you take you will be enabling Sue Ryder Care to help more people living with life-limiting illnesses.

Michael Hodgson, Area Fundraising Manager (North of Scotland) for Sue Ryder Care said: "Running is a great way to get fit and feel fantastic and by choosing a specific event for Sue Ryder Care, people have something to really aim for. What's more, Sue Ryder Care looks after its runners and is with them every step of the way to keep motivation levels high!"

If you would like to rise to the challenge please give Michael a call on 07795 451320.

We will support you every step of the way from sign-up to the finishing line, to collecting every last penny. Sue Ryder Care's partnership with justgiving also enables runners to create their own online fundraising page, making it easy for family and friends to sponsor them and keep up with their personal challenge and fundraising drive.
