Calling all stags - the Mighty Deerstalker Run

14 February 2008

Sue Ryder Care is challenging you to get your fitness training up to speed by taking part in this unique evening event which takes place on Saturday 1 March at Traquair House in the Scottish Borders.

We are looking for individuals or teams to join our Sue Ryder Care runners to make this the ultimate personal challenge event in your calendar, and to raise money to increase our services in Scotland.  Whether you are a Bambi, Stag or an old Stag there's a place for you, with a choice of 5K or 10K runs.  Entry fees are £19 for the 5k run and £29 for the 10k run.  Joining our team means that we will be there to support you every step of the way, giving you personalised sponsor forms, fundraising tips, and a commemorative t-shirt.

Helen Hamilton, Area Fundraising Manager for Sue Ryder Care said "There are currently 29 million people in the UK who are affected by the life changing conditions that we care for, and our aim is to increase our hours of care from 4million to 10million over the next three years, which includes increasing care in the central belt of Scotland.  The money you raise by taking part in the Mighty Deerstalker run will help us towards this goal and will enable us to put back the dignity, independence and confidence that these challenging conditions take away."

Helen continued: "The care we provide goes far beyond normal care and we are passionate about giving care that helps put back what the conditions we care for take away, so your support is vital in helping us achieve this aim."

The event, now in its 2nd year, is described affectionately as a "big, muddy romp" through the countryside, forests and hills around the famous Borders village of Innerleithen - which is currently renowned as a World centre for mountain biking. Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house in Scotland, provides a stunning backdrop at the event centre, where runners will be greeted by Tweed-clad sporting officials and their very own, specially brewed "Deerstalker Ale", already fermenting nicely under the watchful eyes of the Laird, who has been brewing beer there for generations.

There are times to be beaten from last year, prizes to win and a great evening of celebration and entertainment after the races to enjoy- but most importantly your support will help us provide our very special care.
