The nation's favourite 'Queens of Clean' - Kim and Aggie from Channel 4’s 'How Clean is Your House' - have teamed up with Sue Ryder Care to urge people to spring clean their homes and donate unwanted items to the charity’s nationwide network of shops.
The healthcare charity’s ‘Spring Clean’ appeal, running throughout March, urges people to clear out their cupboards, wardrobes and sheds - and, rather than throwing items in the bin, donate them to Sue Ryder Care.
All money raised from the sale of donated goods helps the charity deliver quality care to people living with conditions including Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer and stroke.
The unwanted items can be dropped off at any one of Sue Ryder Care’s 370 shops across the country. And, by gift-aiding unwanted items, Sue Ryder Care can add 28% to the value of every donation.
Kim Woodburn said, “Aggie and I are delighted to be involved in Sue Ryder Care’s ‘Spring Clean’ appeal. It’s a fantastic way for people to de-clutter their homes and free up storage space. And, at the same time, help Sue Ryder Care raise vital funds by donating unwanted items to the charity’s shops.
“We're all hoarders to some degree. If your cupboards and drawers are so crammed full that you are short of storage space and cannot find a permanent home for things, then you need to clear out and get rid of the items you no longer need or use. By de-cluttering you will be able to locate what you need quickly, without the frustration of searching through endless piles of things.
“And, rather than throwing unwanted items in the bin, donate them to Sue Ryder Care. By supporting Sue Ryder Care in this way, people can help the charity make a real difference to the lives of the thousands of people they care for each year.”
A regular customer at her local Sue Ryder Care shop, Kim added, “The charity’s shops are veritable treasure troves where you can find lots of lovely bargains. So, whilst dropping off your unwanted items, why not have a browse around the shop – but hands off any pairs of yellow cleaning gloves trimmed with pink feathers that you may find, they’re mine!”
Alan Hodges, Director of Retail at Sue Ryder Care, said, “Spring cleaning is a long standing tradition in many households. Our ‘Spring Clean’ appeal aims to encourage people not to throw items that can be re-used in the bin, but instead donate to our shops. All donations received can be converted into vital funds to enable us to continue to provide care that liberates lives.”
Hodges added, “The donation of just one hundred items could raise as much as £500 for the charity. And, if all donations are gift-aided we can raise an additional £140. Each year, the charity needs to raise £13 million in voluntary contributions – so we need as many people as possible to spring clean their homes and donate any unwanted items to Sue Ryder Care.”
All funds raised through Sue Ryder Care’s shops help to support the specialised palliative and neurological care provided at 14 care centres across the UK.
