Sue Ryder Care has the key to your perfect job

The charity offers a variety of volunteering roles throughout its retail division designed to appeal to people looking for a pathway into employment.  Volunteering at Sue Ryder Care allows people to gain invaluable work experience and develop skills needed to thrive in a work environment.

Volunteering roles at Sue Ryder Care include all aspects of running a busy retail outlet from serving customers, operating the till and sorting through donated items to creating stunning window displays.  A flexible role, a person interested in volunteering can choose when and how much time they can commit.   

Tracey Mealing, Sue Ryder Care’s Volunteering Manager, said, “Volunteering used to be something that people did when they retired. Over the years though, volunteering has evolved and become more diverse and professional - and recognises that it needs to be a mutually beneficial activity.  In today’s increasingly socially responsible environment, volunteering is viewed in a positive way by prospective employers too.

“We would like to encourage school leavers, mums returning to work or those keen to develop their CV’s to give it a go as volunteering will enable you to gain that all important work experience.  At Sue Ryder Care we endeavour to match volunteers’ interests, skills and aspirations to the roles we assign giving you a positive and rewarding experience.

“By volunteering and taking on a job to support the charity, it means Sue Ryder Care can focus on delivering vital hospice, neurological and community-based care services to more people living with conditions including multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, acquired brain injury and cancer.

“Volunteering is also fun and really rewarding.  Whether people want to give something back because they have been touched by the charity or to add essential experience to their CV - there is a ‘perfect fit’ for people of all ages.”

Since its launch 18 months ago, Sue Ryder Care’s Perfect Fit campaign has attracted hundreds of new recruits across the charity, boosting an existing band of 5,000 volunteers who take on all manner of roles from bookkeeping to staging events. The charity has recently introduced Long Service Awards to reward volunteers for their support and remind them how much they are valued.

Sue Ryder Care, which provides neurological, palliative and community-based services across the UK, also unveiled a new Volunteering Policy as part of its Perfect Fit campaign, which has standardised the induction of volunteers and ensures their skills are put to the most appropriate use.
